Keyword embedded systems: Embedded systems are responsible for the operation of almost all technical equipment. Their networking is the pacemaker for many innovations. The Embedded Systems Institute networks the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg with activities in the industry.
In 2010 was the opening of the ESI Application Center in Nordostpark, a high-tech and research location in Nuremberg. The center is a cooperation between the Embedded Systems Institute (ESI) and the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS.
The application center has the purpose to take advantage of the beneficial environment for embedded systems existing in the region. Additionally, it aims at consolidating the cooperation between the university and the Fraunhofer Institute to promote the development of new and innovative products of industrial users.

The Nuremberg Initiative for the Communications Industry (NIK) provides a communication and cooperation platform for companies. NIK initiates innovative projects, organizes information events on IT issues, and advises and supports information and communication technology companies.
