1997 Award Ceremony

The 2nd presentation of the Nuremberg International Human Rights Award was held on September 28th, 1997 in Nuremberg Opera House.

The award money was donated by pop star Billy Joel whose Jewish parents had to leave Nuremberg because of the Nazi regime.

The words of greeting by the Bavarian Government delivered Dr. Edmund Stoiber, Minister President of Bavaria. Ursula Schleicher, the Vice-President of the European Parliamant, gave the speech "The European Union and the Peace Process in the Middle East".
