Nuremberg's Sister Cities

Nuremberg's tradition of close links to cities all over Europe dates back to the Middle Ages. Those links made a considerable contribution to the development and importance of the former "Free City of the Empire". Then as now, a wide-spread network of economic links and intensive intellectual and cultural exchange characterised the economic and social life of the city. The City established an independent Office for International Relations in 1990, in order to co-ordinate and promote international links, and particularly to intensify partnerships entered in sister city agreements with 14 cities all over the world.

Thus numerous citizens had the opportunity of getting to know people from and in various sister cities, a contribution to understanding between peoples and peaceful co-existence of people everywhere.
