Historischer Rathaussaal (Historical City Hall)

The historical City Hall (1332-40) is the most important element of the Old City Halls. With its length of just 40 metres and width of 12 metres, it was at the time of building considered the largest profane hall north of the Alps. The hall burnt out completely in 1945, leaving only the perimeter walls. The entire interior, including murals by Albrecht Dürer, was lost in the blaze. When the hall was reconstructed, only the cassetted wooden barrel vault, the wood panelling and the flagstone floor were restored. Today, the hall has many uses, including representative receptions, events and concerts. Since 2003, for example, the "City Hall Concerts" of the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra are held here during Advent.
