|
Opened in 1913 as "Art Exhibition Hall", the building on Lorenzer Straße was originally intended to extend the municipal art collection and provide an exhibition space for Nuremberg and Franconian artists. In 1967, the building was renamed "Kunsthalle". The then director, Dietrich Mahlow, staged spectacular exhibitions, opening this space for the international arts scene. In 1997, the collection was incorporated into the New Museum. Since then, the focus has been on temporary exhibitions of German and international art after 1960.
