Cycling in Nuremberg

Cycling

Cycling

Unlike neighbouring Erlangen, Nuremberg is not exactly a cyclists' stronghold. In an analysis made by the ADAC motoring club in 2004 on the topic of "Cycling in Cities", Nuremberg was listed as average. Because of its cobbled streets and the large pedestrian precinct which is also closed to cyclists during the day, the Old Town is only partially suited to cycling. Outside the Old Town, with the exception of some sign-posted routes, the network of cycle paths is rather incomplete, but it is completed more and more as traffic-calmed zones are increased.

There are some beautiful cycle paths through Nuremberg's green areas, starting with the banks of the River Pegnitz, the tow paths of the Old Canal and along the Main-Danube Canal. There are excellent mountain bike trails in the quarries on Schmausenbuck, in Brunn uand in Nuremberg's surroundings, for example in the Franconian Jura.

Network of Cycle Paths in Nuremberg

A Nuremberg city map with the network of cycle paths will indicate whether any given cycle path will get you to your desired destination. Choose the "Radwegenetz" (network of cycle paths) as the basis for the city map displayed.
