Britta Walthelm

Berufsmäßige Stadträtin und Referentin für Umwelt und Gesundheit

Britta Walthelm ist 1980 in Nürnberg geboren und aufgewachsen. Nach dem Abitur studierte sie an der Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg Politikwissenschaft und Volkswirtschaftslehre sowie an der University of Manchester, wo sie den Abschluss Master of Arts in den Fächern European Politics and Policy erlangte. 2007 beendete sie ihr Studium an der Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg als Diplom-Politologin Univ.

Die Diplom-Politikwissenschaftlerin war in der vergangenen Stadtratsperiode (2014-2020) stellvertretende Fraktionsvorsitzende der Grünen, fachlich und federführend verantwortlich für den Umweltbereich. Außerdem war sie die stellvertretende Vorsitzende im Umweltausschuss und im Werkausschuss Abfallwirtschaftsbetrieb Stadt Nürnberg.

Zuvor war sie als Geschäftsführerin und Referentin in der Jugend- und Erwachsenenbildung mit Fokus auf Nachhaltigkeitsthemen tätig. Von 2013 bis 2017 war sie im Landesvorstand Grüne Bayern unter anderem für strategische Neuausrichtung und organisatorische Professionalisierung des Landesverbands im Hinblick auf die Landtagswahl 2018 mit verantwortlich.

Britta Walthelm sieht die Schwerpunkte ihrer Arbeit in den kommenden Jahren in der Umsetzung von Klimaschutzmaßnahmen und der Klimaneutralität der Stadtverwaltung, der Gestaltung von Grün in der Stadt im Hinblick auf den Erhalt der biologischen Vielfalt sowie in der Stärkung des kommunalen Gesundheitswesens vor dem Hintergrund der Corona-Pandemie.

Die Schlagworte „mehr, bunter, älter“ werden weiter die Dynamik der Stadtgesellschaft beschreiben. Das stellt hohe Anforderungen – etwa an eine kluge Gestaltung von Freiräumen und Grün auf endlichem Raum oder ein kommunales Gesundheitswesen, das alle Bürger*innen erreicht und modern und schlagkräftig aufgestellt ist – auch in Krisenzeiten.

Britta Walthelm was born and raised in Nuremberg in 1980. After graduating from high school, she studied political science and economics at the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nürnberg and at the University of Manchester, where she obtained a Master of Arts degree in European Politics and Policy. In 2007, she graduated from the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg as Diplom-Politologin Univ. (Political Scientist).

As politician was deputy chairperson of the Green parliamentary group during the last city council period (2014-2020), with responsibility for the environment. She was also deputy chairperson of the environment committee and the waste management committee of the City of Nuremberg.

Before that, she worked as a manager and speaker in youth and adult education with a focus on sustainability issues. From 2013 to 2017, she was a member of the state executive board of the Green Party of Bavaria, where she was responsible for the strategic reorientation and organizational professionalization of the state association with a view to the state elections in 2018.

Britta Walthelm sees the focus of her work in the coming years in the implementation of climate protection measures and the climate neutrality of the city administration, the design of green in the city with regard to the preservation of biodiversity, as well as in the strengthening of the municipal health care system against the background of the Corona pandemic.

The buzzwords "more, more colourful, older" will furthermore describe the dynamics of urban society. This places high demands - for example on the smart design of open spaces and greenery in a finite area or a municipal health system that reaches all citizens and is modern and effective - even in times of crisis.
