Political guidelines for the European Commission 2024−2029

In July 2024, Commission President Ursula von der Leyen presented to the European Parliament the political guidelines for the work of the European Commission for the years 2024 to 2029. The common goal of Ursula von der Leyen and the 26 Commissioners is to make Europe stronger. It identifies the following seven key priorities:

  • New Plan for Sustainable Prosperity and Competitiveness in Europe
  • A new era for European defence and security
  • Supporting people, strengthening our societies and our social model
  • Maintaining our quality of life: Food security, water and nature
  • Protect our democracy and uphold our values
  • Europe in the world: Leverage our influence and partnerships
  • Acting together and preparing the future of our Union

Europe's choice: Political guidelines for the European Commission 2024−2029

"The political guidelines are our plan for European strength and unity. The priorities presented here are based on my consultations and the common visions discussed with the democratic forces in the European Parliament, as well as on the European Council’s Strategic Agenda for 2024-2029. They are not a complete work programme, but should serve as a compass for our joint work."
