Film Festivals in Nuremberg

Nuremberg boasts two major international film festivals.

Turkish-German Film Festival

The Turkish-German Film Festival is the Federal Republic’s most important event to promote inter-cultural dialogue within Turkish and German cinema. Feature films and shorts from both countries take part in a competition on an equal footing. In addition, film landscapes are presented which are representative of the two cinemas. VIP visitors have included Fatih Akin and Christian Petzold, Armin Mueller-Stahl and Sibel Kekilli. The festival is held in Nuremberg each March.

Nuremberg International Human Rights Film Festival

The Nürnberger Filmfestival der Menschenrechte – Nuremberg International Human Rights Film Festival offers a forum for committed feature, documentary and animated films from all over the world which deal with human rights topics. A selection of films takes part in the competition for the “Nuremberg Human Rights Film Award”. The jury of the board of trustees includes Doris Dörrie and Volker Schlöndorff. Patrons to date have included Michael Ballhaus, Ken Loach, Michael Verhoeven, and Katja Riemann. The festival is held every two years after the presentation of the Nuremberg International Human Rights Award.
