Peace Banquet 2006

On October 14, 2006 the this years "Nuremberg Peace Banquet" was held for the benefit of projects of Tamara Chikunova, prizewinner of the Nuremberg International Human Rights Award 2005.

The aim of the "Peace Banquet" is to pay tribute to the engagement of the prevoius years prizewinner and to underline the lasting effect of the prize. But it is not only a idealistic support, the prize also includes a financial assistance. Therefore the proceeds of the "Peace Banquet" 2006 will be donated to projects of Tamara Chikunova in Uzbekistan.

The abolishment of capital punishment and torture has been the main goal of Mrs. Chikunova's work. She founded the human rights organisation "Mothers against the Death Penalty and Torture", which has been untiringly tries to achieve this aim.
Furthermore, Mrs. Chikunova and the organisation see human rights education as one of their other main concerns. They are therefore undertaking great efforts to inform the Uzbekistani public about theses rights and motivate them to commit themselves to human rights.
